Origin & History
The Biewer Terrier came to be when a yorkshire Terrier pup was born with an extreme amount of white on him. Whelped
on January 20, 1984, the pup was named Scheefloechchen von Friedheck and he led the German Yorkie breeders, Werner and Gertrud
Biewer to wonder if there was a recessive piebald gene in their breeding lines. Soon they were producing blue, white and gold
yorkshire terriers who bred true. In 1988, Werner Biewer showed two of his dogs in Weisbaden, Germany, calling them "black
-and -white yorkies". These differently colored dogs caught everyone's attention and soon other people started breeding
them, which led to the desire to have them registered. Germany's Kennel Club, Verband fur das Deutsche Hundewesen (VDH),
however declined to register them so another club in Germany, Allgemeiner Club der Hundefreunde Deutschland e.v. (ACH) was
the first to recognize them. The name of the breed that was given to them was, Biewer Yorkshire Terrier a la Pom Pom, the
latter part translating to " a tassel or colorful ball of yarn", which describes the puppy's hair. The Biewers
signed off on the standard for the Biewer Terrier in the late 1980s. Mr. Biewer passed away in 1997 and Mrs. Biewer stopped
breeding. Personality Profile Intelligent, loyal and devoted, the Biewer Terrier is a true companion. Described
as "lighthearted" and almost child-like, the Biewer has a sense of humor, playfulness and almost mischievoous demeanor
at times but is all heart and truly devoted to his/her people. They get along very well with children and other
dogs.
